Spell Slinger
A downloadable game for Windows

Spell Slinger: Playground Prototype
An isometric action-RPG where magic is applied physics.
This is a rough "Playground" build, about 8 weeks of development in Godot. It is inspired by the grit and depth of late 90s and early 2000s Legends like Morrowind, Gothic, and Dungeon Siege.

The Setting: Mathemagics in 1200s France
Set against the backdrop of the Albigensian Crusades in Southern France, you play as a traveling academic from the University of Montpellier. Along with your mentor, you are exploring an ancient Roman site.
This is meant to be our world, using the laws of physics, so "Magic" isn't power from a Diety or inborn talent. it's Natural Philosophy. What a commoner calls a "Firebolt," a scholar understands as Adiabatic Compression. The game leans into the era of the House of Wisdom and the works of polymaths like Ibn Sina (Avicenna), blending historical grounding with science-fantasy.

What’s in the Playground?
- The Power Curve: Your stats increase as you use them. Start at 15 and aim for 40-50.
- The Spells: 5 spells, each with unlockable perks that fundamentally change their utility (e.g., adding homing logic to Magick Missiles).
- Challenges: Explore areas designed to test specific spell combinations, culminating in a boss fight that serves as a benchmark for your character's growth.
- The "Stat Bug": If you want to go "God Mode," quitting to the menu and restarting currently carries over your stats. Feel free to use this to see how the scaling feels at high levels, and if it gets Morrowind levels of broken.

A Note on Development & AI
I picked up Godot 8 weeks ago. I wanted to move fast and avoid "Tutorial Hell," so I’ve used AI as a collaborator to help me bridge the gap between hobbyist ideas and functional systems.
Transparency matters:
- Code: AI (Claude/Gemini) helped me learn the logic and build the systems you see here.
- Assets: I’ve used a mix of free libraries (Kenney, Zapsplat) and AI-assisted generation for custom models (Meshy), music (Sonauto), and images (Leonardo).
I’m a solo hobbyist. For me, these tools lowered the barrier to entry, allowing me to focus on the "Game" rather than spending months on 3D modeling or grinding through Turtles-drawing-squares tutorials. I fully respect the ongoing conversation around AI; if you have a zero-tolerance stance, I want you to have the info to make an informed choice.

What I’m Looking For:
- How does the scaling feel? Do you feel powerful at Stat 40?
- Is the perk system intuitive?
- Any performance issues? (Targeting a GTX 1060)
- Any other comments are welcome.
